NPP started trading in September 2019 and in that period has demonstrated consistent and profitable growth. To celebrate, the partners, staff and their guests enjoyed an excellent dinner at the Savoy Hotel in London.
Neil Pearce, NPP’s CEO, said: ‘The last five years has flown by. We have worked tirelessly to grow our business in line with our start-up philosophy – that is, to concentrate on successful client outcomes and to avoid the noise that can distract from this focus. We are very grateful to our clients for their faith in us and we will continue to prioritise their needs and to go the extra mile ‘.
Gordon Newman, NPP’s Chairman, said: ‘I am very proud of what our closely knit team of like-minded, dedicated professionals has achieved. Our aim was to create a positive, enjoyable and sustainable working environment where we could focus on our client and insurer relationships, and I believe we have done this. I am grateful to our team and also to their partners who joined us at the Savoy and whose support has been very important on our journey from start-up to established Lloyd’s Broker. I am very optimistic for the future as our journey continues’.
With 15 years of specialty experience, Debbie Young has carved out a niche in the mining and energy sectors. Prior to joining NPP, Debbie served as an Account Executive and Broker Team Lead at PRL Vancouver, most recently focussing on the mining industry. Debbie has handled accounts ranging from junior mining exploration, transition to operational, and international operational mining companies. Prior to joining PRL, Debbie worked in Calgary energy sector, specialising in oil and gas accounts. Debbie will work closely with Stephen Tillie and Nick Salter, the respective heads of NPP’s Construction and Property teams.
Debbie holds an Honours Degree in Sociology from Aberdeen University in Scotland and the Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation.
Gordon Newman, NPP’s Chairman, said: ‘I am delighted that Debbie has chosen to join NPP in London. Canada is an important and growing market for us and Debbie’s detailed knowledge of the Canadian mining and energy sectors and of the Canadian broking world will be invaluable as our development continues’.
On 7 December 2023 NPP became directly regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (‘FCA’), having previously been an Appointed Representative of Crispin Speers & Partners Ltd. This authorisation reflects the successful growth and operation of the LLP since its establishment in 2019. Per Lloyd’s rules, direct authorisation by the FCA also permits NPP to apply for Lloyd’s Broker status in its own right. The LLP has successfully completed this process in advance and is therefore now also a separately approved Lloyd’s Broker from this date.
Gordon Newman, NPP’s Chairman, said: ‘These twin authorisations are evidence of our successful growth and development. From the outset we were committed to becoming our own Lloyd’s Broker. In practical terms this will make no difference to our clients as we have always fully accessed the Lloyd’s and London insurance market via the FCA’s ‘appointed representative’ mechanism. It is however a very positive note on which to end another successful year’.
Having satisfied his previous contractual obligations, Nick joined NPP on 12 October.
He said: ‘I am delighted to have finally joined NPP, to be back in the independent wholesale broking space and to be re-connecting with a number of colleagues that I have successfully worked with in the past. At NPP the client is the number one priority and through close collaboration across the team we can provide a joined-up, market leading service, unencumbered from corporate distraction. Property complements the firm’s existing core offerings, particularly in the Construction and Casualty fields, and I am very excited about what the future holds’.
Gordon Newman, NPP’s Chairman, said: ‘It is a great pleasure to finally be able to welcome Nick on-board. His arrival is a significant milestone on our journey as a leading independent wholesale broker in our chosen areas of expertise’.
Nick will be joining the business from Marsh Limited where he is Managing Director, Global Head of Mining and Metals. On joining at a date to be finalised, he will become head of Property and a partner in Newman Pearce & Partners (Holding) LLP. At NPP Nick will re-join Stephen Tillie, NPP’s head of Construction, with whom he previously worked.
Neil Pearce, NPP’s C.E.O, says: ‘Our ambition is to be a leading mining and related industries broker in the independent wholesale sector. Nick’s widely recognised property expertise, which complements our existing construction and casualty strengths, is a significant step towards this goal. We work closely and collaboratively together across product lines to optimise outcomes for our retail broker clients and Nick wholeheartedly supports this approach. The whole team is looking forward to welcoming him and getting down to work’.’.
Gordon Newman, NPP’s Chairman, says: ‘It will be a pleasure to welcome Nick back to the independent broker market. He is a widely respected insurance professional, and it is gratifying that our philosophy of focussing on client delivery without the distractions, and sometimes conflicting priorities, of outside investment has demonstrated its appeal. As NPP is wholly owned by the people who work in it, we can offer senior individuals the opportunity to be fully engaged in the strategy and development of the business as well as sharing in its rewards through both uncapped potential remuneration and equity in the business. We are very excited about the direction of travel’.
David joins NPP’s International Facilities team, led by its Managing Director Simon Hall, from Oxford Insurance Brokers (now part of the Ardonagh Group). He specialises in North American marine, energy and casualty business.
Simon Hall says: ‘David brings complementary expertise and relationships to our team, and he will be a valuable addition to our client offering’.
Gordon Newman, NPP’s Chairman, says: ‘David is a committed and enthusiastic insurance professional, and I am very pleased that he has chosen to join our growing business’.
Simon Hall, Managing Director, International, at NPP has been elected captain of Lloyd’s Golf Club for 2023.
He takes over from Neil Pearce, NPP’s C.E.O, who held the position in 2022.
Effective 1 June 2022, James has become a member (‘partner’) of Newman Pearce & Partners (Holding) LLP, the holding entity for Newman Pearce & Partners LLP.
Gordon Newman, NPP’s Chairman says: ‘I am very pleased to announce James’s membership of Newman Pearce & Partners (Holding) LLP. This appointment reflects his on-going contribution to both the growth of our international casualty book and our business as a whole.
I believe that the prospects for further growth in James’s specialist area, and indeed across the business, are excellent’.
Eliza joins NPP from Price Forbes, having started her career in the London market with Newman Martin and Buchan LLP. She joins NPP’s growing Property & Construction team led by its Managing Director Stephen Tillie.
Stephen says: ‘It is great news that Eliza has chosen NPP. She is talented and hard-working and will be a great asset to our team’.
Gordon Newman, NPP’s Chairman, says: ‘I first employed Eliza at NMB and have followed her career with interest. She brings a range of complementary skills to NPP and I am very pleased to welcome her on board’.
NPP started trading in September 2019. Within a few months we, along with all our trading partners, had to respond and adapt to the Coronavirus pandemic. In this difficult period we have continued to serve our clients and grow our business.
Gordon Newman, NPP’s Chairman, said in his message to the team: ‘The business is growing strongly with many new clients and great opportunities in the pipeline. It has been a real team effort. We will continue to focus on growing a profitable business, one which we are all proud to be a part of, and one which we all enjoy being part of’.
